Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons – Not from Mars

Sounds like something from Mars.  Are these for ocean going vessels?  Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons – otherwise know as RRFBs.  No – they are for the City of Ann Arbor and they want four of them.  At least that was the discussion at a recent City Council meeting in Ann Arbor.  A presentation was made to consider the installation of the a new flashing light system at pedestrian intersections in four locations along Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor, Michigan.   You can see what these lights look like in action by viewing this YouTube Video below.  And to read the complete article entitled:

Next step for Ann Arbor’s pedestrian crosswalks on Plymouth Road: Strobe lights?

By Ryan J. Stanton, Political Reporter for AnnArbor.com

Oh, they do sound like a good idea, especially after viewing the video – they seem to really let you know that there is something going on at the intersection.  Well, if they work, and the RRFBs keep my car from getting rear ended then GREAT!!!!
